Joy Lapps

Joy Lapps is an internationally lauded artist and composer who creates spaces for community building and creative expression. An award-winning instrumentalist of Antiguan and Barbudan descent, she positions the steelpan as a vehicle for engagement, grounded in a rich, community-based musical tradition. She has released six independent albums and has performed internationally at major festivals and events. As a speaker and educator, Joy draws on her artistry to design engaging learning experiences, facilitate dialogue, and support organizations in developing inclusive, wellness-centered, and community-driven strategies. Her approach is largely informed by her lived experience as a complex care mom, which brings depth, authenticity, and insight to her speaking engagements. This perspective strengthens her ability to connect with diverse audiences and speak meaningfully on health, wellness, community engagement, and organizational strategy. Joy has delivered keynote addresses, participated in panels, and led professional development sessions for organizations including Soundlife Scarborough (UTSC), the Durham Catholic School Board, the Toronto District School Board, The GroundUp Foundation, the Ontario Music Educators Association, CAMH and brands including Nike and Pernod-Ricard. Joy’s holistic approach centers empathy, collaboration, and reflection. She emphasizes wellness not as an add-on, but as a foundational element of sustainable success and thriving communities.
